Upgrading from V3.1

To upgrade from Information Server V3.1, simply execute the installation program for Information Server V3.6. You will be prompted to confirm that an existing installation of Information Server has been found, and that you want to perform an upgrade.

During the upgrade, you can choose to install Information Server V3.6 to a different web server. Your previous settings will be maintained and your existing web server configuration settings regarding Information Server will be cleaned up in favor of the new web server. Your previous Agent Server templates and forms are backed up, if they exist, so that new templates can be installed. If you have modified any of the Agent Server templates or forms, make sure you implement the changes into the newly installed templates. Your previous Information Server templates are copied into memory during the upgrade installation, and then they are copied back after the installation is complete.

Note that you must enter your new Verity license key included with your product shipment. The installation instructions are covered in detail in Chapter 2.

The Information Server V3.6 installation program will not change your existing spider license. You will not need to specify a new spider license if you don't have new spidering requirements.

By default, Information Server includes the Verity Spider with a license that allows file walking of any files available on the network (files listed in your File Explorer or UNIX shell), and Web crawling of the local host upon which Information Server was installed. For greater Web crawling functionality, you must purchase a new Verity spider license which corresponds to the level of Web crawling you want. For more information, see "Upgrading the Verity Spider License" later in these notes.
