Upgrading Verity Spider License

The Verity spider license covers both the Indexing Manager GUI spider, and the command-line vspider. For complete information on the Verity spider, see the Verity Spider User's Guide.

NOTE: The default functionality of the Verity Spider includes indexing any network-available file system, and web crawling of the host on which Information Server is installed. The evaluation version of the Verity Spider also includes the ability to index any web site within your domain.

When you upgrade Verity Spider, you retain the ability to web crawl the local host, as well as index any network-available file system. If you are upgrading from an evaluation version to the default version, you will no longer be able to index web sites within your domain other than the local host. Contact your sales representative to discuss upgrade options and obtain a new license key.

If you attempt to use the Indexing Manager to index a web site or domain that is outside your licensed ability, you will see the following results:

Clicking on the View Log button allows you to see the messages produced by the indexing task, as well as your Verity spider licensing options.

Upgrading the Verity Spider License

The default Verity spider license allows file walking of any files available on the network (files listed in your File Explorer or UNIX shell), and Web crawling of the local host upon which Information Server was installed. For greater indexing functionality, you must purchase a new Verity spider license which corresponds to the level of indexing and Web crawling you want.

To upgrade the Verity spider license, do the following:

1. Contact your Verity representative for an upgrade spider license key that corresponds to the new level of Web crawling you want.

2. Click the Host Manager button on the menu bar, and then click the License button (if you are using frames), or the Update License Keys hyperlink (if you are not using frames).

3. On the Update License page, select Universal Spider and enter the license key.

4. Click Update to enable the new license key.

5. Restart your Web server.

6. Stop the Information Server administration server. For more information about stopping the admininstration server, see "Admin Server Settings" in Chapter 7 of the SEARCH'97 Information Server User's Guide.

Once both your Web server and the SEARCH'97 IS Admin server have been restarted, you can take advantage of the new Verity spider functionality.
