What's New for Verity Spider

Key functionality added to the Verity Spider for this release includes: various performance improvements. For more information about all of the command-line options changes, see "Options Changes for Verity Spider V3.6" later in this chapter.

Meta Collections No Longer Supported

If you installed Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 for Information Server and you upgraded your meta collections to be compatible with Verity Spider V3.5, you can use Verity Spider V3.6 to update your collections. If you still have meta collections from Verity Spider V3.1 or the GUI spider in Indexing Manager, then you must re-index your collections to use Verity Spider V3.6. For information on your options, see "Upgrading to Verity Spider V3.6" later in this chapter. For information on upgrading your meta collections, see Appendix B, "Upgrading Collections."

Improved Control

Verity Spider V3.6 allows you to specify no optimization, using -nooptimize, while working with a collection. This reduces overhead during indexing while allowing you to fully control the optimization process yourself with separate Verity collection utilities. In addition, the -reparse and -refreshtime options allow you to specify what is included during a collection update.
